"Bela Vista by Konstantin": The Gate of History, the Sea of Memory

On January 30, the exhibition “Bela Vista by Konstantin” by artist Konstantin Bessmertny, came to a close at the Official Residence of the Consul-General of Portugal in Macao and Hong Kong, formerly known as the Hotel Bela Vista — a hidden colonial mansion with over 150 years of history in Macau, rarely open to the public.

That day, long queues formed outside the iconic Bela Vista, as visitors waited to glimpse the historic house and to enter a surreal world where art collided with imagination.

The paintings and space merged into a miniature theatre of time: from a Nanban-style battle scene to Churchill sketching a nude at the Yalta Conference, these works are witty, layered, and provocative. Time collapses in his hands — past and present, East and West, reason and absurdity, all unfold on canvas.

This was more than an art show. It unfolded like a temporal museum — a flowing conversation between knowledge and imagination.
